The word “hosting” does not describe just one service, but a set of services which provide a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, for example, are two individual services though in the general case they come together, so most people see them as one single service. Actually, every domain has a several DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that defines where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will be directed to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting from us, you will be able to see, create and change any A or MX record for your domain names. As long as a specific Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or emails pointed to any other service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain the slightest bit. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with simply a couple of mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will enable you to see the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to change any of them or set up new ones. Managing these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a few more clicks and in case you experience any difficulties, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with complete control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
