If you have checked out loads of Internet sites, you have probably stumbled upon some error message from time to time. An error can take place when the server can't process a request (Error 400), if you must log in to see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you aren't permitted to access a page (Error 403) or if a link leads to a file which is not on the server (Error 404). Encountering this type of messages can sometimes be irritating because the pages have absolutely nothing in common with the actual website. That’s why some website hosting service providers permit you to use your own error pages that'll match the design of your own site and which can have any content which you'd like - details why the error has occurred, a suggestion how to proceed or even some humorous remark. This type of feature shall help you keep the visitor on the site whatever the error and the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Website Hosting

You can set up custom made error pages for each of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all cloud website hosting plans that we provide, so after you log in to your Hepsia CP and check out the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will be displayed, you could pick the type of error page which should appear - a default one from our system, a typical Apache web server page or a customized one. For the latter option, you will need to assign the URL to the page, so when you use personalized pages, you must upload the files inside your Internet hosting account first. An alternative way is to use an .htaccess file located in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each and every error type. The correct syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of the semi-dedicated servers which we provide support custom error pages and it shall not take more than a few mouse clicks in your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option can be found in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you will have to enter the links to the custom-made files through basic drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Keep in mind, you must upload them in your account before that. If you do not need to use this function at some point, you will be able to deactivate it just as fast and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you could also use an .htaccess file to activate the custom made error pages. The file has to have a particular line of code plus a link for each error type and you can easily discover an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
